The Flicks Hut is a volunteer-led community cinema offering a relaxed, welcoming space to watch films together and spend time in conversation.
Screenings are chosen for their ability to linger — films that invite reflection, spark ideas, and open up gentle discussion. Some people stay to chat afterwards, others head off quietly; both are equally welcome. There’s no pressure to analyse or perform — just to watch, listen, and share the space.
The Flicks Hut is about shared experience, and about making room for connection through film.
Rooted in Rhythm is a continuing strand of The Flicks Hut that explores the stories, sounds, and shared histories behind music, movement, and culture.
Through carefully chosen films, it centres African-American communities whose creativity has shaped modern culture — including the blues, jazz, and social dances we celebrate in our classes. It invites reflection on where rhythm comes from, how it travels, and who gets to be seen and heard.
Screenings by request
Alongside our programmed screenings, The Flicks Hut is also available to host film screenings by request. We collaborate with community groups, schools/colleges and local organisations to host bespoke screenings. If you’d like to partner with us, get in touch - let’s bring thought-provoking cinema to new audiences in an informal, friendly setting.
What to expect
A calm, inclusive cinema experience with optional conversation before or after the film. You’re welcome to join in or simply enjoy the screening — there’s no obligation either way.
What to bring
Come as you are. Tea, coffee, and a warm welcome provided.
