Our Story in Film

Celebrating One Year at Dance Addiction

As we mark the first anniversary of Our Social Space transitioning into Dance Addiction as our community venue, we’re delighted to share this creative short film developed with our dance community.

Lost Sole was created as part of the NI Now Project, supported by the Nerve Centre and Northern Ireland Screen, and now forms part of the Northern Ireland Digital Archives.

Filmed in Our Speakeasy, the story follows a curious lost sole who stumbles into a lively Cotton Club-style gathering, discovering a welcoming world of rhythm, connection and social dancing.

This film was brought to life by our fabulous community social dancers, with story written by Julie and creative direction from Mark. It celebrates the creativity, collaboration and sense of belonging that continues to shape Our Social Space.

Autumn Swing & Jazz Social Dance Programme

From the upbeat charm of the Charleston to the smooth flow of the Peabody, and on to the high-energy Lindy Hop of the Swinging 40s, this autumn we’re taking you on a dance journey through the golden age of Swing. Join us for our donation-based Wednesday Swing & Jazz Social Dance Classes at Dance Addiction Studios, Belfast - with a 7:30pm Roaring 20s class and an 8:30pm Lindy Hop class that will transport you straight to the 1940s dance floor.

What Is Swing?
Swing dancing began in African American communities, especially in Harlem, when Big Band music took over dance halls in the 1920s–40s. Known for its joyful energy, fast footwork, and improvisation, it’s a dance that has never gone out of style. From the vintage glamour of the 20s to the wartime spirit of the 40s, Swing captures the heartbeat of an era.

This Autumn’s Programme

7:30pm – Roaring 20s Jazz Era
We’ll take you through the social dances that defined the decade and beyond - from the elegant One-Step to the lively Peabody, the playful Texas Tommy, the iconic Charleston, and the dynamic Breakaway. Each week builds on the last, so you’ll get to know the steps and the stories behind them.

8:30pm – Swinging 40s Lindy Hop
Lindy Hop is the most famous of all Swing dances - energetic, creative, and endlessly social. We’ll cover the fundamentals for newcomers and add layers of styling and musicality for those ready to explore more. No partner is needed; we rotate in class so you can dance with everyone.

Why Join Us?

  • Beginner-friendly – no experience necessary
  • Social and fun – meet new people and dance to great music
  • Donation-based – pay what you can
  • Taught by experienced teachers – Declan and Carrie have been teaching Swing in Belfast together for over five years (though Dapper D’s been teaching longer than he’ll admit!)
